SGV Youth Soccer - Code of Conduct
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to San Gabriel Valley Youth Soccer (SGVYS). In order to help answer questions and avoid potential issues or problems, it is important that players and parents understand the philosophy, expectations, rules, and policies of the SGVYS as outlined in this Code of Conduct.
PHILOSOPHY
As a team of community leaders and coaches, we are extremely focused on having a growth mindset. We have worked together to create a purpose, and it is a purpose that we all take pride and ownership in. Our Purpose: Empowering youth to achieve success in soccer and in life, thru the love of the game.
THE LEAGUE, THE TEAM, AND THE PLAYERS
The League’s Board of Directors has a policy directing how decisions are to be made within the League. Board Members and staff decisions will be based on the following:
First, what is in the best interest of the League
Second, what is in the best interest of a Team
Third, what is in the best interest of a Player
Fourth, what is in the best interest of a Coach or Parent
POLICY ON COMMUNICATIONS
If a problem arises that a player and/or parent need to resolve, the League has a policy to effectively address it. The first thing to do is follow the, 48-hour rule; which means giving a problem at least two days to settle down before initiating communications. It is amazing how much simpler a problem may seem after taking some time to cool down. After that, the player and/or parent needs to:
First, discuss the problem with the coach. If not resolved, then...
Second, discuss the problem with the Director of the League.
Emails should be used only to distribute factual information. They should not be used to air problems or express opinions.
PLAYING TIME
Coaches will distribute playing time by taking into account the nature and importance of each development phase in order to maximize both player development and team development. However, each player should play at least 50% of the game. Coaches are asked to work with the League’s director to adjust playtime if there is a need.
SIDELINE BEHAVIOR
The League expects the highest standard of behavior from its parents. Coaching is not allowed and respect for referees is REQUIRED.

Most minor violations of the Player and Parent Agreement should be resolved within the team and through the team coach. Serious or unresolved violations should be reported initially to the Director of the League who will then involve the Board Directors of the League if deemed necessary. The Director will conduct a review of the situation and present the findings to the Board of Directors, which will make the final determination of what action, if any, may be appropriate. If action is necessary, the available options range from a warning to expulsion from the League. A parent or player, in certain situations, including the removal of a player from the League, will be allowed to attend a hearing before the Board of Directors of the League. As a member of the League, you are responsible for your own actions as others will be held accountable for the same.
